Raccoon Run 2020

March 24, 2020

Dear Raccoon Run Runners, Donors, Sponsors and Supporters,

The top priority of the Raccoon Run Committee, Mantua Elementary School Kids Care Club, and Woodson H.S. Young Hearts, is the safety and health of our community.  We have been closely monitoring the evolving guidance and recommendations of public health officials related to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19. Now that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has restricted gatherings to 10 people for at least eight weeks, and Governor Northam has closed all Virginia schools, we are transitioning the 20th annual Raccoon Run to a virtual event.

We still want to celebrate this milestone year in honor and remembrance of our dear friend and teacher, Roberta Romano, and to benefit Life with Cancer, the psychosocial and educational arm of the Inova Schar Cancer Institute that offers classes, support groups, counseling, acupuncture and massage, free of charge for adults and children impacted by cancer, right here in our local community. We are proud that over the past 20 years, the Mantua Raccoon Run has donated over $142,000 to Life with Cancer and with your help we can add to that total!

While we are disappointed to not be able to see everyone and run together, we remain committed to rallying new and past runners, walkers, sponsors, and donors in an inspiring experience of honor, remembrance, and hope, for all impacted by a cancer diagnosis, by joining us online for a virtual run. “Registration” for the online virtual run is on our registration page. In addition, we encourage you and your family to go on a walk/run, observing social distancing rules, take a picture and send it to us to post (if you like) so that we still celebrate – separated — but together! We will select a winning photo and family for a special prize!!

Your support and commitment to helping continue to honor Roberta Romano and support Life with Cancer is critical to our sense of community and to Life with Cancer. We ask and hope that you will remain engaged with us throughout this difficult period.

Please contact Jennifer Lewis-Cooper, jalcooper@aol.com or Joyce Montgomery, jmontgomery@capitalcaring.org, with questions or concerns.

As always, thank you for your support.

With sincere gratitude,

Yours in giving,

Jennifer & Joyce
